Recent notification by information and broadcast ministry that if any journalist publishes fake news then they will be detained from there profession, but the question arises by printing media is that, who will decide this fake news ? and was the fake news will be according to government priorities? If there is press information council who has authority to deal with journalist conduct issue so why the government is interfering in this issue?
Journalist demand answers from the government on all this issue. As soon as govt realizes the resist from journalist they have drawn back the issue and now they come with a new order that here onwards there will be the regulator on online media.Again the question arises who will regulate this online media ?whether whole Government body or joint committee of Govt and press information council? and a lot more…
4th pillar of Indian democracy is fully built on article 19 freedom of speech and expression so along with gov it is also the responsibility of media to publish the news with integrity. In the era of breaking, news many news channels get in tug with TRP and also some media channel gives such ridiculous news under-investigated journalism that it seems to be a common man like daily soap. Instead of placing regulator on online media it should be placed on fake news and rumors on social media, govt should more concentrate on the issue of death of journalists, protection to the whistleblower, journalist, RTI activist etc. because as per the George Orwell famous quote “Journalism is printing what someone else does not want to be printed: everything else is public relations ” it is responsibility of govt to provide protection to this 4th pillar of democracy…..
